Dana White speaks with Jon Jones before CSAC hearing

Jon Jones is set to meet with the California State Athletic Commission next week regarding his failed drug test at UFC 214. The scheduled meeting that will deem the future of former champion, has led to increased conversation about a possible UFC return for Jones later this year.

Jones, who defeated Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight belt last summer, failed the subsequent drug test for the banned substance turinabol. He was later suspended, and now faces a 4 year ban if found guilty of knowingly taking the drug.

So is this latest development something for fans to get exited about, or yet more speculation in the Jones saga? Jones’s manager Malki Kawa said in a recent statement he is “95% sure” that Jones will fight in 2018.

UFC president Dana White has also spoken to the former champion for the first time since the failed test, and seems optimistic about the situation, stating:

“I don’t know. Obviously that would be great. It’s crazy you asking me about Jon. Jon and I talked yesterday for the first time, for the first time since his last fight. He sounds good, and he says he’s looking at positive things right now. He’s just focusing on training. He wants to come back (in 2018).

He also made clear that he’s not in control of Jones’ current issues, saying, “That’s up to USADA. I have nothing to do with that.”
